we are a writing heavy mythological community based in london, england. every 300 years a small pantheon of deities from all cultures and faiths are reincarnated during an event called the recurrence and are allowed to live for 5 years among humans. 5 years after awakening, each member of the pantheon dies and the cycle restarts. taking place in 2020, the latest recurrence is on the precipice of beginning, and more deities than ever before are due to wake up...

what is the recurrence?

no one knows how, or why, but every 300 years a select few humans begin to reawaken during a process called the reincarnation as deities. a god can be reincarnated as any gender, age, location, and it seems to be without reason that a vessel is chosen for a deities' new body. once the first deity is awakened, the others will follow within 5 years, and after being awakened a deity regains all memories of their original life, and of all the recurrences that they were reincarnated during before.

a reincarnated deity will retain all of their human memories of that current life as well, and retains their mortality - within 5 years of reawakening, the deity will die again, and the cycle will begin anew.

what kind of character can i be?

any deity from any pantheon, culture or religion across the world is welcome here, we just ask that they have some kind of substantial wikipedia page here to reference. deity adjacent characters are also accepted if invited by a current awakened member, including things like named valkyrie, titans, the muses, etc. if you're unsure if your character idea would be accepted, just ask!

can i be *insert deity here*? there are only some deities that are off limits for members, primarily for plot and power balance reasons! that list can be found on our mythology page, but primarily includes those deities who ruled over the others.

what kind of plots will there be?

actual gods and goddesses reappearing on earth's soil won't go unnoticed for long. can a god's blood cure cancer? can a deity perform enough miracles to fix world hunger? can two gods resist the urge to butt heads and level a city? plots will be varied and open ended, and we are more than happy to hear from members about what sort of plots they would like to see, or even for members to run activities/events of their own! the sky is the limit in this magical, mythological world!

how do i unlock my character's memories?

Members will be able to collect points through participation in community events and plots, by keeping on top of updating and activity, and these points will eventually allow members to unlock their character's memories of being a deity, and will trigger their specific reincarnation. more information about the point system can be found on our reincarnation tracker

what powers will my character have?

---

we know a lot of deities are in charge of many things throughout the world, but because this is a reincarnation and they are still in a mortal form, deities will only regain access to a primary power. we're going to leave that power up to each writer, but will ask you to submit it for approval to the mods so that we can make sure everyone is on an even playing field.

for example, thor being the god of thunder would have power to manipulate lightning and atmosphere, but might not have mjolnir available to him.

as another example, dionysus doesn't have specific powers, but could create an aura to encourage the party atmosphere he loves so much and to encourage others to imbibe. we are open to interpretations!

do i need to have mythology knowledge?

no, outside of the basic concept of deities from all kinds of cultures & religions! we are based off of a few works of fiction, including the wicked and the divine and american gods but aren't completely tied to the ideas of any specific work! as long as you check out our mythology page, do some research into your deity of choice and keep an open mind, you should be fine!

the general rules of rp apply here at incarnation: be kind to one another, don't mix ic and ooc, do not harass other members or non-members, all of the usual rules apply. if you are having an issue with another member that cannot be resolved amicably please reach out to us through the MEMBER DROPBOX and we will do our best to resolve the situation. we are going to operate on a 3-strike policy, with members being up for immediate removal after three strikes against them. please just be open and honest and we will do our best to be the same way with you.

MUST HAVES

PBS all pbs must be over the age of 18 and your pb must be within 5 years of the age of the character you're creating. we'll allow a little wiggle for a year or two either way on this, but please don't take advantage of this. we encourage our writers to be creative and open with their ideas, but we are going to ask that people refrain from white-washing deities from cultures of color. if you would like to use a poc pb for european, celtic, etc pantheons, we welcome that! rejection if we have deleted your application it is because we do not feel like you are a good fit for our community. we reserve the right not to respond to any questions about why you were denied. if there is something easily fixable that is wrong with your application, we will be in contact with you to get that sorted.

character limit is 2 per writer! you must be active on the fp (writing scenes, commenting, making posts) with your current character before applying for more. you must disclose if you are applying for more than one character so we can keep track of limits. failure to tell us about other roles is grounds for removal, full stop. try to avoid overlap in roles, ie several deities from the same pantheon! we want to encourage you to branch out and experience new situations. the member limit is 30, with a bit of wiggle room past that for current members to invite new people in. if current member count dips below 30, we will open applications/holds again.

INTRODUCTIONS must be posted within 3 days of acceptance or we will assume you are DOA. this can be anything posted to your own journal, a social media post, a narrative, a thread, or a tag to an existing thread for example. this will also count for your monthly activity. if you post some kind of interactive entry, comments must be replied to within those 3 days or it will not count. monthly activity we require one update a month, and it can take any form - social media, moodboard, playlist, narrative, a thread, etc - just some form of activity on the fpage that can be linked to our activity tracker points participation in activity and monthly plot will earn you points that you can use to unlock your character's memory of their previous life as a deity. for more information check out our reincarnation post

hiatus real life takes priority, if you know you are going to be gone for a period of 2 weeks or more, drop us a comment on the member dropbox and we will be happy to grant your request. extensions can also be requested on the member dropbox and you will have until the next set of removals to complete the activity requirement for the previous month. we will not grant extensions multiple months in a row. removals activity based removals will happen at the middle and end of the month! it's imperative that you check in on the mid month check in post and also submit your activity to avoid removal!

JOURNALS narratives, entries, updates and other random postings should be posted to your character's journal! this is also where you will post your "introduction" post of your choice! the modern world is your oyster, and social media certainly exists! will your deity embrace or shun it? your journal is also the place to house private customs and scenes, and to interact with other members! THREADS/SCENES are strongly encouraged to be posted in the main community ~mythological! though not required at all, we aim to encourage open writing and plotting environments and want our members to feel comfortable interacting with one another. open scenes are not a requirement, but encouraged to spread your character's interactions across the group! we ask that anything nsfw, potentially triggering or extremely graphic be tagged appropriately and placed under a cut, and anything with graphic or adult themes be kept to private entries.

NEWS UPDATES a weekly or biweekly a "tweet drop" will go out updating london on current events and news happenings. these will be mini-events and prompts for you to use for furthering your character, and will adjust as more and more deities are reawakened. to submit headlines and ideas please head to our headline dropbox EVENTS/ACTIVITIES monthly events and plot activities will happen in our main community ~mythological! it could be the celebration of a holiday, a nefarious corporation trying to get in close with deities or any manner of things, and participation in these events will earn you points towards unlocking your deity's memories! to submit plot and activity ideas please head to our plot dropbox! we also strongly encourage hosting and planning your own events or bigger plot points, and just ask that you come and okay it with the mods before posting!
